I have a 2002 chevy Malibu that my husband is changing the cv axle on the driver side, how do he get it to come out of the transmission, it acts like its locked in and won't come out.

if it doesnt have a retainer then pull/fource it out...

we didn't see a retainer. When he was trying to pry it out it came apart, one peice is still in the transmission or trany what ever that thing is called

Get a threaded rod vise grips that thread on it. A couple of nuts and washers. I thread on vise grips to clench down on end cap. Thread on nut 12 in. down add washers. I use a (5 lb metal weight) put it on rod add the washers working up to size bigger that hole, add nut and you have a slide puller.
