does the 2008 chev HHR UV has a power steering pump or is it electric?

Power Steering comes and goes off the warning screen, and it will drive fine for
awhile and then the steering goes out.

I looked at hhr ls and it is electric. I didn't see hhr uv in my database. My database isn't always correct.

If it is electric who do I carry it to get it repaired or is it something I can do to repair it?

It depends on the problem? Can you check applicable trouble codes? I saw some codes for that system. To check codes, yourself, at the least, you need an obd 2 code reader that will work with your vehicle and read manufacturer specific codes. It is possible the system could shut the power steering motor off to avoid over-heating that motor. You need it diagnosed properly.
