engine light came on a few days after getting my
gas tank dropped.  feeks like it wont start until i
pump the gas 3 ir 4 times.  went to auto zone
  guy was busy looking busy but he did give me a
code.  what do codes PO171 and PO 174 mean?

Google those codes and you will see several reasons it is not getting enough fuel. They recently "dropped your tank". Did they replace fuel pump? Pressure running low? Stirred up dirt and clogged the fuel filter. Check it out.

well, i guess I'd have to say they did charge me for a new fuel pump. i don't know if I actually got one

Ask the shop to return your old parts even if they have dumpster dive. The parts store they deal with would have a record of the purchase on their account. I like proof. Don't like getting cheated. The part would have a one year warranty and you would like an invoice to prove date of purchase.
