1968 Beetle will not start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I went to start my 1968 beetle for the first time this year. It would not turn
over so I jumped the battery. It turned over but would not start. I cranked it
about a dozen times. I turned it off and then back on to try again and it
almost caught. I turned it off and back on again and now the starter will
not turn. Not even a click. I checked the battery with the booster cables
still on and it read 12.4 volts. I took them of and it read 10.1 volts. I am
scratching my head on this one. Any help would be appreciated.

Charge up the battery and try it again. You need to check for spark and fuel at the engine. I am guessing the carburetor is gummed up.

The issue is not the engine at this point, it seems to be electrical in nature. I turn the key and nothing at all happens. The lights all come on but the starter won't even click.

Clean and tighten the battery cable connections. 12.4 volts is on the weak side.
