Car wont turn off

Asked by Gorgoglione May 26, 2019 at 04:36 PM about the 1968 Volkswagen Beetle

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I turn the key to off position the engine stays
running. All instruments on the dash show that
power is still on. Volt meter, fuel gauge,  rpm radio
all stay on. If I stall out the car power will also shut
down to everything.  If engine runs ningbo and key
is off and I pull the D+ wire on the alternator the
engine shuts off. Any suggestions?

That's what o thought, but I changed the switch and still have the same problem. I also noticed that if I turn headlights on the fuel gage6goes to empty and the oil temp gauge maxes out
