fuel consumption

Asked by bobhino07 Feb 03, 2017 at 02:26 PM about the 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an automatic Mercedes c200 2001 model, the runs well however my fuel consumption is really high. I have an average consumption of about 14l/km. My instant consumption is high in the morning, and during short distances. I've checked my tire pressure, air filter and fuel filter everything seems fine.  I've also tried popping the car in neutral, this lowers my consumption significantly however I was told it's causing harm to my gearbox (not sure though). Is there anything that could be wrong?

Bad catalytic converter will kill your mileage.

14 liters a kilometer? That is more like a massive leak than high fuel consumption. That works out to something like 5 gallons a mile!
