Issues with temp sensor and now check engine light on

Asked by Jennifer May 21, 2018 at 02:21 PM about the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, my coolant temp sensor blew out of the hose this
morning cause my car to over heat and all the coolant to
spray out. I replaced the sensor and refilled the coolant.
Drove it about 10 miles and now it’s idling very rough and
the check engine light is on. When I popped the hood it
looked like steam was coming from the air filter area.
Could it have gotten wet during the initial spray and that’s
what’s causing the engine light?
