I've heard that the dashboard cuts out and has to be rebooted, also that the computer fails completely at around 100,000 miles and must be replaced 4 abt $8,000. Re: 2006/7/8/9 Anybody's that old?

Hey, you'll hear a lot of bad stuff about the Prius...when ur on top, they'll always be people trying to bring ya down. Plus, I've found there is this weird prejudice towards the car...it's so different/innovative that a lot of people just don't get it and are afraid/uneducated so they make up storeis. But then why are main-stream competitors trying to copy it finally...they are just now catching up (actually, I think Ford's Sync system now beats what I have in my `08). To answer your question, that's a first I've heard about the computer/dashboard...but there are a lot of electronics on the car (as w/most cars these days) so perhaps it's happened to one or two...I don't know? What you usually hear is the battery will fail at 100k. First, this may be true w/other hybrids, but Toyota has yet to report a failed battery. To also put you at ease, I bought my 2008 cuz my Step Father owns a 2005 w/nearly 150k on it...and he's done nothing but breaks, oil, filters and tires. These cars are very low maintenance, they don't even really have a transmission, they only use about 3.5 qts of oil, they are roomy (mid-size), the technology is phenomenal (they've offered voice, bluetooth, touchscreen since 2004) and no hybrid, even compact ones, can beat the Prius's average MPGs. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one, even if over 100k. Go to priuschat.com and search threads for the issues you are concerned about. Register and ask questions...the Prius owners on there are great and very helpful. Also, you'll find a few owners that have over 300k on there's and still no issues. If you do buy one, there are a few Prius Junkyards around the country that offer any/all parts at very affordable prices (ex: batteries for $700)...even eBay has a ton of parts.
