Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 ford f150 with a v6 4.2l. my issue is that it wont start. I can spray starter fluid into the intake manifold and it fires right up. I have replaced the Fuel filter checked the fuel lines for pressure (good) I have a spark(as ive said car runs beautifully when starter fluid is used fires right up)occasionally starts on its own. had the dealership do a diagnostic and couldn't find the cause no check engine light no code. im stumped I love my truck its beauty and brawn, but im stumped does anyone have a likely cause or a list of things I should start replacing

ok lets see it fires right up when you spray the starting fluid. so that means you are getting fire to the plugs. and you got air flow to the engine. and your fuel pressure shows good. the only thing I can think would be your issue would be to check your fuses and see if there is a fuse for the fuel injectors maybe they are just not spraying fuel in to the engine. and if there isn't a fuse take a multimeter and check the connections to them and see it they are getting any signal pulses and if so your sprayers may have crapped out but they aren't that big of a problem to replace

the dealer did do a live data scan no faults or codes were found in the last few days itll start occasionally on its own but sometimes still refuses and I have to use starter fluid to get it going once running it runs amazingly no change in gas mileage. with no fault no code im having a hard time isolating the issue especially since sometimes its really bad and sometimes really good (in reference to starting)

yes, there are fuses for the fuel pumps as Joe mentioned!! there is a black fuel relay that sits in the fuse panel. it's black and looks like tiny box, BUT it controls what the pump does. When the motor is running, pull it out ( I had to get channel locks to get mine out, but it worked). I had 6 black box to choose from and so I had just had to fiddle with it to play the brain game ( the owners manual gives ZERO info about this becuase they want you in the shop to spend money that you really don't need to !! which is sad on Ford, I might ad. These fuses ARE available at junkers for like $1. DON'T go out and buy a bunch of brand new fuses!! There are plenty of fuses avail at junk yards!! all my fuses are JYD. Good luck
