Towing capacity

Asked by Saidin Dec 01, 2007 at 01:54 AM about the 1988 Ford F-150

Question type: General

I recently bought a 1988 F-150 XLT King Cab with the extended bed, 6 cylinder with a 5 speed stick.  Unfortunately, there was no manual with it.  I have been trying to find specs for it, especially towing capacity, as I'm looking to get a camper as well.  Does anyone have the info or know where to find it??

'preciate it.

You should be able to tow 4-5,000 lbs. with this. I regularly towed junk cars with my '82 F150 with 302 V-8, sometimes had 6-7k lbs. with the tow dolly included. Other than that you could look on Ebay, usually easy to find manuals there for fairly cheap.

The factory towing capacity for a 88 F-150 with the 5-speed is 5000 lbs. The greatest limiting factor for your truck is going to be the clutch and axle gear ratio so make sure your clutch is in good enough shape.
