Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi,
I have a 1997 Chevy 1500 5.7 - that had a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator, so I replaced it, and now, the motor cranks but will not start.
Is it a defective FPR, or could be something else?
Motor ran before this work.
I put some gas in the throttle body thinking it just might need that to get fuel flowing again, but no start.
Have tried several times to start thinking fuel needs to refill where disconnected and ran out at the spider when I replaced the FPR.
I picked up a fuel pressure tester, but not completed that test yet
Any Ideas for ?
Larry

Have you thought about checking the ignition side to make sure you have spark? A malfunctioning coil that still puts out voltage, but not enough will cause the engine to run poorly and foul plugs.

I got the spark issue fixed with rechecking connections. Duh... Engine now starts strong, but then will only run for about 5 to 10 seconds, then seems to have 'starved out' for fuel...? Turn the key again, starts and same, over and over...? Defective Fuel Pressure Regulator? The FPR is what I started off to replace, and then changed out for this repair. FYI> I had P300 Multiple random cylinder misfire, and was always a little hard to start - took usually couple key turns, but it ran. But, I had to keep resetting the P300 code, but Engine light would always come back on, always the same with P300 Misfire codes. Saw on the Internet videos that replacement of FPR would probably take care of hard starting, and also the P300 code, but now it starts, and only runs 5-10 seconds..? Thoughts on what might be up now? Appreciate responses. Lfryklu

Your FPR runs off vacuum, so have you checked for a vacuum leak?

Not sure how to check for vacuum leak with engine running for so short a time...? New gasket for upper manifold was used, and vacuum port to PS booster also had new o-ring and sealant. Only two other vacuum line fittings and rubber boots and lines all looked good? What are the chances the new FPR I put in could be defective? Lfryklu

I have no idea about the new FPR. I "T" my the line to my vacuum gauge into the line that goes into the FPR. Vacuum gauges are usually less than $20 and many have fuel pressure gauge built into them.

The fuel pressure regulator on this truck is found beneath the intake so you'll have to test the vacuum pressure elsewhere on the intake itself.

I wanna buy a 1998 chevy- 1500. But needs a new fuel line. I know nothing about cars or trucks. How much will it cost and is it worth fixing?

What could cause my 97' 5.7 vortec engine to lock up after replacement of the fuel pressure regulator? It ran before doing this work. It cranked over a few times after I got it put back together, but now it's locked up and won't do anything but clunk when I try to start it. I removed the serpentine belt and plugs and still can't turn the engine over with a breaker bar in the crank
