Is a newer 3.5 Ltr V6 Ford engine interchangeable with a bad engine in a Explorer 4.0 Ltr V6 engine

Asked by Beetle_792 Mar 11, 2017 at 06:54 PM about the 2007 Ford Explorer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The possible newer 3.5 V6 is from a newer Ford car; the Explorer with the
bad 4.0 engine is offered.
Please advise whether the new engine will (1) align with existing mounts, (2)
be compatible with electrical hook-ups, tranmission, and  shift software.

Doubt it. First thing to do is check if the transmission in the newer 3.5 is the same as the vehicle with the 4.0
