The battery replacement was only part of the story. The core issue was the Park/Neutral switch failure. We had removed the battery to better access the switch. It was getting late and after testing the connector pins on the switch (which indicated the the switch was no good)we put the battery back in place and when the cables were bolted on the alarm system began to sound off and the lights began to flash. We found no way to override the alarm so we removed the battery. Subsequently, after we replaced the defective neutral switch, the battery again was reconnected and again the alarm went off. Difference this time was that we were able to actually start the vehicle which apparently reset the alarm. In the words of Paul Harvey..."and now you know the rest of the story!".
