Will downshifting an automatic trans while it's in gear do any damage on short term basis?

I was using the trans to slow down because my brakes were metal to metal. Will that do any harm?

Yes, depending on speed that ur shifting down from. Get ur brakes repaired before u do any more damage

NO. As long as you do not shift down too quickly and over-rev the engine.
