can i put the transmission from a 1997 grand prix into 2002 grnd prix gt

Unlikely. The electronics will most certainly be different. Try to find one for your year and model to keep the project from getting overly complicated. Shouldn't be too hard to find one. There were a gazillion of these cars made.
