Timing belt broke ,replaced it and plugs and
wires.car will start and run until you take foot off
pedal

You would need to check if you have the pulleys lined up properly for the timing to be correct. Also, I think the engine is an interference engine in the 2001 Mirage, so there could be internal damage, like bent valves. Have an engine builder or mechanic inspect and test.
