my 1991 bronco shifts hard and just recently it started not shifting out of 2nd. what could be the cause of this and would it be the trans going bad

Hi Will! Well something is obviously going on. You simply need to figure out if you can fix it before things get worse. The first thing to check is fluid level in the transmission. If restoring the proper level fixes these issues, locate the leak and have it dealt with. If the level is ok, or restoring teh proper level doesn't fix these issue s, you probably should seek professional help. Here's a tranny troubleshooting guide to help you narrow the possibilities.
