2002 Mercury Sable won't start

02 Mercury Sable 90,000mi.
  was running absolutely fine since i bought it a
month ago. Yesterday ran around did great all day;
today I go to start it and it won't start.
All my lights and radio comes on battery looks
good. It trys Really hard to turn over, but just won't.  

Could this be the theft system or starter? Any
ideas what it could be or where to start?

It may sound really simple but check that your gear select is in park all the way. Foot on the brake and put it in neutral then back to park.
