Loud Tone From Dash Even with Car Off

Asked by Guru8Y1L7 Dec 26, 2019 at 06:36 PM about the 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I have a 04 Mercury Grand Marquis. A few months ago
there was some beeping tones coming from the dash,
somewhere. It was intermittent when it would make the
noise. Brought it in to the dealership AND a second opinion
mechanic. Neither of them knew what it was. Now, months
down the road, it is a constant high pitch ringing. It's even
making the noise while the car is off! I can't seem to locate
where the noise is coming from. I even went as far as taking
all the fuses out individually trying to narrow down the issue.
Nothing. The only time it really stops is after it's been sitting
and off for an hour or more. But then it starts back up again
as soon as you open the door.

I don't know what to do and I'm damn near ready to just junk
it cause the noise is driving me crazy.

Check the GEM (Generic Electronic Module) it can emit a buzzing or humming noise, it's inside the dash. Any time you open a door you are going to keep several modules in an active state, especially the GEM which governs the door modules among many other things.
