Monday tribute 01 staring problems

I have a Mazda 2001 tribute that is starting
to have problems starting. It tries to turn
over but only clicks and then eventually
turns over.

I had same problem; turned out to be defective battery that was only 8 months old, it would not hold a charge. Have your alternator and battery checked, I also had a defective (rebuilt) alternator that was not charging properly but the battery light was not on. The alt. had bad diodes, this will show up on a tester they use at Auto Zone or other auto parts stores, or Pep Boys as well.
