85 GMC C1500 Overheating

Asked by BradParks1 Jul 28, 2011 at 06:09 PM about the 1985 GMC C/K 1500 Series

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My sons GMC overheated last night and blew a hole in the radiator.  We replaced the radiator, but it is still overheating.  Not sure if this is related to the thermostat or the water pump.  Is there a way to tell?

did you purge all the air from the new radiator? remove the thermostat and disconnect the top radiator hose from the radiator. start the engine for a second, if you get coolant out the hose its not the waterpump.
