front axle u joint install

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, I installed a new U joint at the front of the front propeller shaft, where the propeller shaft bolts to the front axle. I am trying to install the retaining clips which are the outside type. There is a little machined tab on the front axle yoke, which is what the straps bolt to. The retaining clip must be installed over the u joint cap which seats between the front axle yoke and the strap. My question is: should the retaining clip avoid contacting that tab, or should it be installed behind the tab (that is, between the tab and the u joint cap)? Note: there is no groove in the front axle yoke and the strap.

I bought used 1967 GMC pickup in my 20s 4 speed stick transmission 350 it never used oil blew drain plug on bottom of radiator and the carrier u bolt snapped apart under the fraim that had left front coil spring pressed up inside It collapsed boy was it hard to drive I bought new 50 cent bolt and put it back on road it never gave me no more problems. There is a ford driveline that will cross over with gmc drive line for rearend take my word for it it ruins value of 67 gmc pickup The rearend is positrack rearend hard to find in pickup gmc half ton Great pickup Mine was all original
