It's not the fuse. The buttons or circuit boards in the radio have been broken or worn out. The radio will have to be repaired or replaced. Best wishes! -Jackie

wow...sounds like a bad chassis ground...with gloves and glasses, blast your battery clean of corrosion, then follow the black cable to where it attaches to the frame/chassis unscrew the nut/bolt holding that one on and use a wirebrush to clean it down to metal same with the lug, the lug connecting the motor block to the ground all three places what could be corroded with the big black ground cable. 2002...OLD BATTERY....you're makin' grampa do the heavy lifting, buy a new battery, they will give you some credit for the old one....another thing, the red cable should be free of corrosion too, follow it down to where it is solidly making a connection to the starter solenoid~ Your fuse is okay, just starved of POWER, cause the battery is old and making the alternator have to bake itself to try to charge up a battery that isn't taking a charge anymore~

Whos to say that vehicle has the original battery in it?

I'm still thinking its the radio, but I could be wrong.....

Im with ya. The radio is its own separate componet, the buttons are all tied into the radio circuit board. As long as it has power and ground which in this case it does because it turns on and plays

...classic brownout...test the operating voltage will dip down to 10v, especially when a power intensive device is engaged such as advance to the next track, would hazard to guess the radio doesn't work on FM, but AM is there but scratchy~

even if the battery was replaced, that'd be seven years ago...hence...still a DUD.we will find out if it is LOAD tested, will be DEAD shorted for three seconds and still be able to start the car....a seven year battery will fail this test.

how about a two dollar Amazon gift certificate? I could use two bucks and Paypal hasn't been co-operative since McAffee thought he was just going to help himself from my -2000 balance accounts...so no paypal~

talk to us cherrypie...tell us that you hadn't thought of the battery, and that now you'll head over to NAPA with the old one and change it for a new one?

@cherrypie, just check the "suggested above" on your car and then come back and tell us who was right lol

have the guys install it if they want to make the sale...Lord over them and instruct them to clean this and tighten down that battery hold down~

Who's askin' for help?...finally figured out the radio will come on without the key in it if you press the on button twice...aaah the British/BMW aren't a bit like the Japanese~ besides have no Idea what in the hell girlie's talkin' about...just waiting for a reply, cherrypie's garage has one car with no comments on there----end of the show~

"the electricity is all worn out", as you know electricity cannot wear out, but semiconductor devices can start to not behave themselves~....this usually doesn't happen by itself, but needs a lightning bolt to the electricals or being starved of power....or being sent the wrong kind of power (dirty with spikes of alternating current randomly in there), lots of reasons for units to fail...mostly because of bad ground.~

515

Btw "girlie" has a name, and I wasn't helping anybody, I we just stating my own opinion on what I felt the prob was.....

You're alright, Jackie...it takes courage and a bit of know how to hop right in there, knowing there will be no punishment for a wrong answer, but may be introduced to mark....mark helpful...who's a real scratcher, not ever really wanted all these points and later when found out to be the wrong answer cannot give 'em back or donate them to the emotionally needy like Llregal (who was thrown out due to cursing at tenspeed) or one of these anxious to learn chaps like The_Sheese, who will find nothing but hope and encouragement instead of this sort of MALE 'king-of-the-hill' chest beating that guys tend to display- really don't need the damned points in fact started out from zero when I crossed the 3000 mark, cause I felt as though maybe I could not be trusted to know everything about every car, but as a matter of fact with pullin' threads off the sweater known as the WWW can be master of the car gurus (in a "you big phony" sort of way)~

still am not clear on what Jackie is trying to tell us with (just check the "suggested above" on your car )....where is this feature...I'm blind load hep me~

515

Both of you are cool people, but I'm new on here so I gotta ask......is this the first time you guys have butted heads? Cuz it don't look like it.

Batteries are not made from lead anymore for a number of reasons, instead they are made from a Tin/Antimony alloy (courtesy of Nawaz M Qureshi, battery Engineer goin' on 35 years)...for Interstate batteries~

Judge I meant that they should either check the radio themselves or the battery or take it in to get checked, find out what it was, and etc

Ive read some of your answers you have posted. Pretty impressive for being so young. Not the stereotypical girl.

ya, Jackie--it wasn't until kbro figured out that I was just havin' fun out here as they won't let me have a job anymore because MS is slowly taking it's time to make life difficult...isolation...no friends...these guys are my friends and have not met a one in person, we share the same love of cars and trying to figure out why so complicated? sheesh, I posted the question "why counterclockwise", as most engines I've ever seen have turned counterclockwise...perhaps you can answer that one...no one has before...to an understandable degree~

515

Thanks, kbro! Its nice to see that some appreciate my growing obsession with cars, cause I'm telling you, the people my age sure don't. Judge, yeah, I honestly wouldn't be caught dead driving a foreign or 4 cylinder car. Yeah, the two sports cars I got are more pricey, but totally wor th it especially when you catch your peers gawking at it. As for that engine question, that's a tricky one. I'm gonna have to think about that....

if you could pull the radio and bench test it, quite sure that it'd test okay...I mean how often do they go dead-zies in that fashion...all brown and stinky (er um partially inoperative) it is rare...~

I have replaced many of radio due to issues with them. Sometimes the whole thing takes a dump. But alot of times certain parts will not work. Pretty common really and people get pissed cuz radios are expensive, and they dont want to wait two weeks to send it off to be fixed.

Jackie, for god's sake, how many cars can you drive at once? my garage has like 26 or so vehicles in it and that's still not all of them...Wisconsin winters force you to have a "salt car" to get you through the winter...wasn't until I moved to California where every day is a beautiful sunny day, people have sunnier dispositions and is a much happier place, and I ain't goin' back there again...not even as dust in a coffee can~ kinda know a few things about cars and was a mechanic a couple of times in my life not since the naughty oughties...on 9/11 was working for Parker-Hannifin high purity valves division as a draftsman...temp work...it ended...I was suffering from MS symptoms and did not know what was wrong until the MRI scan...then my sister sent me flowers....like I was already dead...

515

Don't know. I guess I'll find out. And I'm sorry that you're suffering from MS. All I gotta say, is stay strong, and do what you can to keep doing what you love. Continue to prove those people who think you can't work wrong!!

Jackie, really sorry for bustin' your chops on not diggin' in for the Acura required Oil question...I guess "check your manual" seems like a cop- out when the information is all over the place on that car, on the door jamb, hood cowl, air filter...kinda hard to miss...seek professional help. Rose so high with points because I refused to let a questions slip by unanswered---not guessing but from what I was able to glam onto with the web- you may gain this obsession too, kinda starts listening to click and clack the tappet brothers, many times I had them on during my Sunday mechanics shift kinda loud so waiting customers could enjoy it too...those guys are zany...and sometimes I actually learn something from them~

...am an Artist of sorts and have made quite a few paintings. A girl Nikki Trivette was having problems with her neon and it was valentines day and I was feeling generous and took this opportunity to display my work--- enjoy: http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t4222_ds539787

Thank you all for your answers! I am so sorry that I am just getting back to your thoughts on whether it is my battery, but I work two jobs and so just getting in. You guys had me cracking up at 3 am! @judge, its not the battery, I replaced the battery 2 months ago at Sears. Brand new Gold Die Hard battery, so I am sorry...we got to eliminate that issue. There is no corrosion around anything under the hood because I had the engine steam cleaned and it looks brand new so corrosion can be rulled out too. Thank you though for that suggestion. @jackie, You are a trooper for stickig in there with all of these guys... :) !!!! @kbro...yes I was going to say its the radio, but just wanted to see if I should start changing fuses or what because I did not know where to start. Dont want to be under the hood all day and night trying to figure this thing out.

@Jackie...Thanks for suggesting the radio because I have been thinking about replacing it for awhile, but just did not want the original console to be tampered with. I guess its time to replace or keeping dealing with a bad radio...lol...I am going to have a guy check the radio and then get back to you all and give the results...Thanks again all...I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my question!

@Judge its all good. I'm sorry but I couldn't click on your link cuz it wasn't showing. @Cherrypie - No prob! Glad to see that I can help. And thanks for getting back to us! =]

http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t4222_ds539787 ...a lifetime of Oil paint....meaningful....solving anonymous car problems....meaningless- try again to look at my artworks---it means something----probably not to you- @cherrypie, still convinced they botched the installation and did not assure excellent ground connections-

48,605

my god judge give it a rest it has nothing to do with the battery.

1 people found this helpful.
75

Thank you judge... I will definitely get back to you since you are convinced it's the battery...lol

1 people found this helpful.

duh...you had it replaced...that was a right guess...still failure of your audio pleasure zones is tied to insufficient ground...stereos just don't fail for no reason...the problem still exists and could possibly be insufficient ground to the stereo----thanks for putting my whole head into the toilet bowl and pressing flush there kbro...guess I owe your two dollars amazon money, but you never agreed to this bet---so there....mwah-~....see, batteries WILL fail, she replaced it, I got that one right, stop pushing the cripple across the street cause he ain't walkin' fast enough~

48,605

I dont care about the bet. Im just telling you the battery is not the issue here but if would like to keep telling yourself and cherrypie it is then thats your own business. All parts have a failure rate. Your telling me every electronic part on the vehicle can only fail because of the battery ground connection? Maybe that was so back when you worked on cars whenever that was. I work on cars now not 15-20 years ago and im telling you things break its not always something elses fault like in this case. Radios fail its a fact every electronic system runs off the battery if it were the issue there would be other problems. Im done arguing with you. You dont give up. I can admit when i make a mistake or am wrong you lack that in a major way

No need to get all lit up about this---Sears used Prestolite, or is it Union Carbide (never forget bhopal), have to report you as attacking an individual...sorry bro, you brought it on yourself----I'd never say anything disparaging about you, my man....live and learn...or not, I don't care.

515

Judge still can't click prolly cuz I'm on mobile. Jeezzz both of you, for the sake of an Aztec, leave it alone until Cherry comes back and gives us an update. You both had great answers so leave it at that.

Jackie....shame on you...if texting while driving...you are on my s%$# list~ this is illegal, irresponsible, will take your eyes off the road and if you were a little kid and I were your dad, would give you a spanking, right now!

To give you the jist of it, I'm lonely and posting my paintings to a sorry girl with a bad transmission, here while the wife is more or less married to the tile business, rubbing shoulders with all type if San Francisco types who never need a parking space 'cause they always take a cab...type people, checks in with hubby every so often, yet does not mind this because I'm not checkin' out nudie pictures~

515

Judge. Easy on the accusations. I have never touched a mobile device while driving and I don't understand why you'd suddenly assume that I do! I do this from an internet tablet at home that uses websites in mobile format. Jeezz

Jackie, just teasin'...guess that's simply not gentelmanly, thousand pardons begging your forgiveness for any misunderstandings here now...you've really got enormous courage here, now and willing to learn even more....got a cadillac penny dropped in the cigarette lighter (or equiv) while the ignition was switched on the daughter changed the fuse and apparently delicate modules do not like to do this....so now I'm trying to figure out what in the hell from the few scraps I've been able to gather and crikey the whole things a catastrophe, emailed H25 and Tom Deyman No2 and No1 GURU's with the posting...keep your eyes on this one if you want to watch judge_roy crumble with ignorance~
