I have a 1962 AMC rambler classic could I use a
390 with a stock transmission with having to
modify anything

That's an inline 6, you probably could squeeze a small block V8 in it, but what ever you do you'll probably have to change the tranny too. Before doing anything and ruining a classic do a lot of research. That year is out of my range for firm info besides what I've heard from mechanics
