Chrysler 200 STUCK IN NEUTRAL

Asked by Patty Jun 07, 2017 at 07:39 PM about the 2015 Chrysler 200

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Chrysler 200, I drove it yesterday and
everything was fine. I got up this morning and
when I started it it was stuck in neutral. The service
brake light is on also and I know my brakes are
good. I don't know how it went from park to neutral
by itself. Does anyone know what the problem
might be or how to fix it?

The gear knob went out. I had to have the dealership fix it and it wasn't covered under the warranty.

My car is stuck in neutral too. I drove it to work today and when I got off and I tried to crank it up it was stuck neutral. If it's not covered in the warranty how much did they charge you to fix it

Mine was not covered under warranty also. I had to have the computer reprogrammed for $450. I went to MasterTech

Same happened with me, I had to flash the TCM with latest firmeware, then restore proxi. You will need to have a dealer or authorized tech to do it, or you may do it but you will have to buy the equipment which is over $1000.

I have a 2016 Chrysler Sport and my shifter service came on and my car stalled and would not get out of the drive gear and would not move. This happened in traffic. Dealership quoted $525 to replace the shifter. They advised this is an uncommon occurrence which I find hard to believe since I have read all the reviews on this.

I have a shifter knob brand new in box never used for $350 if anyone needs it. It'll save you a couple hundred dollars. I can even send an installment video on how to do it yourself. You'll be amazed how easy it is

I have this issue with my Chrysler 200 2015. Apparently software faulted out more than likely to the battery dying out is what I was told. New battery 300 labor taxes and update software another 2 something spent almost 600 bucks. No it did not fall under any warranty my car is currently under

So if the battery is faulty or dying I guess the system software can malfunction.

I just had the same issue with my 2015 Chrysler 200. The dealership just called and said that shifter module it's proxy connection with the other electrical components of the car which resulted in the shifting to Neutral and not engaging when into a gear. They also said that my battery (original factory installed) tested for low voltage which could have a factor in the shifter losing the proxy connection. The fix that they are doing is to replace the battery to restore the proxy connection and update the computer system with the latest update. Out of pocket cost is approximately $315 for the diagnosis, battery replacement, and computer program update. Time will tell if this resolves the issue. Looking back, my car did exhibit some telltale signs that something might be wrong with the battery when it wouldn't start up right away and the brake stiffened up on a couple of occasions. I thought that I might not have had the brake depressed enough when starting it. But now, that might have been the car's way of telling me the battery wasn't providing enough juice at times.

How you turn off the car if it's stuck in park from the shifter breaking

You will need to reflash the TCM. If you don't have the equipment you will need to get to a electrical shop to do it. A bad battery can be the cause.

This has happened to me 3x now. Once November 2018, January 2019 and just last Tuesday July 2019. The first 2 times Chrysler/Dodge service department didn’t charge me said it was a recall however last week I was out of state now stuck again towed it to a different Chrysler/Dodge service department who told me had to do with the new battery. I told them I put that battery in over a year ago and it’s been in the shop 2x and now a 3rd.....cost me $150 this time. So if you put in a new battery take it to the dealership! Hopefully problem is solved but I doubt it. DON’T BUY THIS CAR!!!

My autoshop told me that this is common with the 2015 and on Chrysler 200s with the electric transmission and ebrake. His best advice was to monitor the battery weekly after the first few months and when it starts to die, replace the battery in their parking lot as more than half the time the computer will fault out afterwards. I have replaced the battery 3 times (Batteries dont last in Az) and it happened twice. Second battery replacement it started fine, then switched to neutral with parking brake while k was about 2 miles from the shop heading home. Driving. Scared the hell out of me. Third time they reset the computer on the spot. So, three batteries, twice i had to have it towed.

Oil change i had the same problem and had my car diagnosed and the techs couldn't find any thing wrong with my vehicle, no code or anything. They said I was low on oil. Since we have 2015-2016 chrysler 200 I think shift to p and the blinking light on gear is to prevent you from driving and cracking your oil pan. I had a an oil change and my car run like new, no more shift to p . Hope that helps
