I have a new 4.0 and cannot find out where my misfire code is coming from, even after many tests/sensors replaced, I need help!

Asked by Falon Apr 29, 2007 at 06:38 PM about the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought this 2000 jeep GC in 11/06, and put $4600 into it since then, it only has 82k mi. and has been a source of all things bad since I bought it.

the code I got most frequently was 1391, intermittent loss of camshaft or crankshaft signal... which was causing, (I assume) the following misfire signal.

I replaced the cam sensor, and it made no difference, I did not replace the crank sensor, due to my needing to nearly take the entire engine out to even see it.... let alone reach it. I replaced of the oxygen sensor, and chased that code away. today I replaced the throttle position sensor, now it's running rougher then it was before. (on idle) I was told there's a way to "synchronize" the cam, and crank sensors to make them work with each other like they're supposed to. I don't know how to.

Now, I have a "P0300" random misfire code. The scan tool no longer mentions the ignition code, or the single misfire.

I also rotated the crankshaft to make the holes within the new cam sensor to line up. again, to no avail.

Some one please help, I've taken it to 4 people since I have it, and have been met with BS, one dealer gave me a $120 bill for telling me my cam sensor, and oxygen sensor have to be replaced. The guy that put the engine in told me that I have to synchronize the 2 sensors to make the misfire go away., while his mechanic left some of my sensors unplugged.

Someone please help.

Sounds like you need to talk to a Jeep dealer. Also, a Chilton manual would be able to help you in locating any parts or components.
