Radio will not work after battery change.

Asked by Homegirls2 Jan 12, 2016 at 11:48 AM about the 2011 Honda CR-V

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had a new battery put in my CRV and now the radio/navigation/backup camera will not work. It is asking for a security code, which I do not have. How do I obtain this?

some will come back on with the key left in the on possition for 10 min.Try turning the ignition key to run position so the dash lights come on for ten minutes to see the radio recognizes the VIN so it works again. The process for finding out a car radio code differs from one make to the next, but you’ll generally want to start by looking in your owner’s manual. If you bought your car used, the previous owner may have written the number down in the manual, and some manuals actually have a place to do so. If it isn’t there, then you can check the OEM website or contact your local dealer, although you may end up having to pay a local shop or online service to look the code up.

Some Hondas and Acuras have a label with this code on the side of the glove compartment. Open it, do not look inside where you store your vehicle's documents, but look on the side of it. The picture is for illustration only, may not be you vehicle. I just found it online to illustrate where the location of the label could be. I hope this helps!

For 2016 crv if you change the battery and the radio does not come back on start the car and give a minute and then press and hold the power button until you here the beep. That will restart the radio identifying the radio is still in the car. It’s a anti theft protocol.

I found the 5 digit label on the glove box. Now, how do I enter it into the Nav System?

On 2013 CRV with nav, screen stayed blank and red "anti theft" led kept blinking at top right. The second time I restarted the car after changing the battery, the screen displayed a message telling me to press and hold the radio power button for more than 2 seconds. I did and the system reset, now all is working normally.

Honda provides the codes for your radio for some models. You need your VIN to access.

OK folks I got this one....and believe me when I tell you that you have no idea how funny that revelation is coming from a 67 yr. old non tech-type person. So, start you car and there will be instructions that come up concerning the anti-theft device. You will see below the instructions below the writing to enter a code. Wasted a lot of time on that one, bottom line...you don't need it! Instructions tell you to hold the power button for 2 seconds. I know you hit the button on the right to start up your bluetooth. That is not the power button they mean. They are asking you to push in the button for the VOL. button and hold it for 2 or more seconds. You will hear a beep and your system will return to normal. For those of you who like me must travel approx 40 miles to a dealership, and changed their battery locally to avoid that, I hope this helps.

This post is On-Point! Though I read this after I got my radio working. Initially I tried just as Honda.com and Dealership told me hit the power off button which I press the large button in the middle of the radio...nothing happened. I was looked at the green icon under the volume button. Held it and there was sound on the radio! Thanks. I hope we are all learning where and what the Radio Power Button is.

I had to press in the green button, it would say AUDIO OFF. Finally after holding it in it said CODE ERROR. Then I typed in the the top code number from the side of the glove compartment box using the numbers you push as presets on the radio to enter the code. Then the radio suddenly came back.
