2011 Chevy Malibu Fire-possibly electrical

Asked by IHateChevy Jan 16, 2014 at 09:12 PM about the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Question type: General

I have a 2011 Chevy Malibu. Last Monday, I got home from the gym and about 2 hours
later, my neighbors were knocking on my door telling me that my car was on fire!! My
insurance company, USAA, is trying to low ball me on the settlement. I asked for the
pictures of the interior of the car their insurance adjuster took and it doesn't take a
genius to figure out that the fire had to be started by something electrical. The steering
column and area underneath the dash are all melted. It only burned on the driver side,
my radio and passenger side are all ok. I was wondering if anyone else has
experienced this type of fire or could possibly have any idea what could have started
this??? I'm frustrated by the lack of cooperation by my insurance and the people of
Chevy/GM. I don't feel it is fair that I will be in a whole for up to $7,000 for something
that I was not responsible for.

Just remember you don't have to accept the insurance companies offer, talk with an attorney that deals with insurance claims, most of them will do a half hour consult free. Sometimes just a suggestion of an attorney will bring a company around.

What does your insurance coverage say will be the replacement? What is the Kelly Blue Book give as a value of the car, before the fire of course. Mileage, over all condition, add ons etc. If they give full replacement, find a similar car and see what the selling price is on the lot or on line. Make sure the mileage is the same or less what what you had. My wife's 04 Bonneville is in pristine condition, runs like new, but if it is wrecked or destroyed, I'll be stuck with car payments to replace it.
