How frequently was a model t serviced?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am writing about a friend's experience 1920 - 1922.  His family traveled all the time and he talked about doing something to the motor etc every 500 miles.  They took part of the car apart and did something to it and put it back together.  Any clues as to what he might have meant?  Thanks!

Babbitt bearings were a common repair. Old cars needed a lot of work to keep going which is why rich people took a mechanic along with them. http://www.kmwford.com/what-is-a-babbitt.html
