Insure solid ground off the battery, three legs a fat one to the motor block (near the alternator) a big one going to the fender/chassis, and a third connection that never turns off, like for a clock, flashers, the ECU I think uses that second ground to the fender, check the connections to make sure they can handle the loads~

2004 on your second battery, perhaps a freshie is due~

Ahhhhhh, yes well, I had to replace earth cable/terminal from battery to body. And replaced the battery also because of a battery drain problem that is now fixed. But, what your saying is, the display unit is not working because of an earthling problem? Why though, doesnt all this earthling problems show up in a diagnostics test?

environmental ruggedness, going near freezing, then on Boiling hot and then again to freeze and fry an egg on the hood or melt plastic~ then cold, the connections do tend to get a little fuzzy after a time~

perhaps, god forbid you've a parasitic drain, that might be the glove box or trunk light the dome light the cabin lights (the mini has 12 of them) fade by the BCM~ pull the fuses one at a time to find that? I think we are smarter than that~
