i want to put a 91 miata 1.6 in my 87 323. isn't it pretty much the same engine?

sorry can't be done. miata is rear drive . 323 is front drive . you would have to fab sone custom mounts and the bell housing is different , wiring , and so on . but a escort gt is doable .

You are better off finding a 323 gt or gtx 1.6 dohc turbo and driving that, or swapping it over. I have a 1.8 bp in my 323 right now. Runs great. Keeps up with vettes,
