I have just bought a 1 litre toyota yaris.. what
effects will putting 18inch low profile alloys have
on the car ?

Ride comfort will suffer to some degree, increased chance of cutting sidewalls on road obstacles, slightly more road noise. As long as overall diameter of tire remains the same it won't have any effect on the car itself, you just lose the padding meatier tires give you.
