Dear cg,I may be getting a 2001 ford mustang v6 aND WHAT I NEED to know is how many mile's can you get out of a mustang before replacing the transmission and engine amd how would you rate this car from 1 through 100.And if you had a choice of a camry or mustang what would you choose?Oh yeah is it anything very necessary to do to a mustang for up keeping and a certain type of oil?

Kind of a tough question because the two cars are completely different. One is exciting, one is boring. As far as how long the car will last it really depends on the how well maintained it was and how many miles it has on it. With Fords you will probably start to see more problems as the mileage gets up there as opposed to a Toyota. The Camry is a very reliable car and probably won't give you any trouble even when the mileage and age gets up there. There is nothing special you need to do to a Mustang to keep it running well. Best thing you can do it take a look at both cars, try to find about the cars history, and make a decision based on there. Run a carfax report on both cars to make sure their histories are clean.

camry's dont tend to have many mechanical problems and get very good gas mileage. i have an 01 v6 and wouldnt trade it for 10 camry's mustangs run better on synthetic oil as with many cars other than that as a daily driver upkeep is about the same

The thing about upkeep with any car is that you should take it to a dealer to get any maintenance done, they will check everything from tires, brakes and oil to other more specific queries that you may put forth, also despite the fact that you can use castrol and valvoline, these oils are different from the oils that ford or toyota would use in the respect that they are designed for all cars not just spceific car makes ( the mustang will likely use 5W-20 oil) is better, the Toyota is an econo-box and probably only has about 130 Hp where as the Mustang has 190 Hp stock on the V6, the Toyota you will be stuck with where as the Mustang will hold a resale value because of the name. Having said that, when I worked at Ford, I had to help push their cars ad trucks around the lot multiple times a week, they just aren't as reliable as Toyotas, but they are cheaper to fix and to upgrade, if it's in your agenda. It al depends on what you want in a car and what your budget allows.

i would definetally recomend the mustang if you are a driver... they are fun cars and still quite practical... I would recomend however that you look at a V8 GT mustang... Ive had a V6 and i ran into head gasket trouble at 100000km... And that is a pretty common story among entry level mustang owners... im not saying all do it but i would expect it... The transmissions will likely never go wrong as long as you have the fluid changed at the proper intervals... The matinence and upkeep on the mustang is cheap and easy... most of the routine work you can do yourself... The mustang does run well on synthetic oils... Mobil 1 5W20 is what is called for but its not uncommon to see mustangs running 5W30... The reason i recomend a V8 GT stang is that the engines are a little more reliable, dont use much more fuel... (31hwy/20city compared to 30hwy/18city) You also get a bunch of little added goodies with the V8 trim levels... Better suspension, a stronger rear end, better rims for higher quality tires... stronger transmission internals and a better overall mustang Experience... which if you are a driver you will like... The theater you get from the V8 is just fantastic... But all of this being said i still cant tell anyone that a camry is a bad choice... it will likely run forever... will cost less to maintain overall, and the worst part (youl be driving it forever...) haha... Seriously it will all come down to how much you want to have a car that is a fun sports car compared to how much you are ready to settle for reliability and well frankly... boredom... CHEERS!!! The seasons best to you...!!! :)

naw thats a bunch of shit. take for example my mustang that has 378,000 original miles on it never had a problem, not 1. its just maintained and my friends aunt bought a brand new toyota camry and a year later it broke down and she had to get a new car. funny thing about it is she bought a ford fusion and loves it wayyy more then the camry. people who say toyotas and hondas last forever dont know what their talking about cause many of them dont last forever. every manufacturer makes good cars and bad cars thats just the way it is.

Go with the mustang, todays V6's have as mush HP's then the older small block V8's. 2001 Mustang Coupe models. ... V6, 193-horsepower engine that achieves 19-mpg in the city and 29 ... 193. HP. 19-29 on the highway is great gas mileage. The new V6's in the mustangs have 306 HP's. The one you mite be getting, will run,200-300K, As long as you change the oil on a reg. bases, my brother has one with 206K, AND STILL RUNS, JUST LIKE IT DID WHEN HE BOUGHT IT NEW, and i don't think he's ever change the spark plugs...... hope this helps

@ Doggy5000 I am in the Bay Area do you know a name of a place in downtown LA

Aunt gave me her 2001 Convertible Mustang. I have loved the car since she purchased it. She gave it to me as a wedding gift this year. It has been pampered and garaged. All maintenance on vehicle same mechanic. Paint on this one is better than the paint on my 2012 Honda because I only have a carport. All of the information helps. The Mustang has 108,000 miles, my Aunt had it serviced from bumper to bumper and they did about $800.00 of head gasket work but no transmission issues ever. None detected. Car runs solid has tons of power. She had the top replaced just for me and 4 brand new tires. I love it. It has a CD player and Cassette player(hahahahah). Still keeping my civic but having fun with the Mustang. Good luck all.

my 2012mustang with 89,000 has been real good. once in a while I get a check engine lite, but it goes away. its the v6 with 6 speed manual. on a recent trip I got up to 33.8 mpg!

All of yall talking about a camry being boring I have smoked 2 mustang's in my 3.0 liter v6 5 speed camry best car I've ever had and I've had a mustang. Nothing better than smoking a v8 in a mom's car and still getting 30mpg if you drive it right. And whoever's about to say it's slow and you didnt race anybody one was a 1998 gt 5 speed 4.6 and the other was a 2005 gt 5 speed not saying they both gave me all I got but any car is fast if you can drive good enough and I live in cullman al if you want to try me
