when i press on thebrake pedal it is hard and wont stop right away

Lots of time if you have a rock hard feel to your brake pedal, the check valve at the brake booster has gone bad or is leaking. The vacuum hose to your booster may also have a crack, or.....the booster itself may be bad.....hope this helps!
