So i'm going to buy my first car. it's a 1977 pontiac catalina 4dr, 350 engine, 8 cylinder. and i was just wondering if this make would be a good car for a muscle build up? is their any parts i could possibly add to the car to make it go faster - raise horse power. or could fit a 400 engine, or 454? and is this make a good type of muscle car and first type of buy?

I think its a great first project car, plenty of room to work. If you want to make it 'all Pontiac" the 455 is a great workhorse with lots of aftermarket parts. If that's not an issue, any big GM engine will be right at home, even an LS6 if you want. If you need to stick with the 350, it's also an easy engine to upgrade. Top 3 things to make HP: Intake manifold/carb, larger dual exhaust, cam. You can do all this in your driveway with hand tools. Upgrading the suspension on this car will probably not yield much in the way of street cred, but you can lower the car with short springs and get a slightly better road feel for a but less comfort. Nice rims and tires and I would probably stop there. Good luck! Cool car.
