passing smog test

Asked by GuruK5F9J Dec 02, 2019 at 05:41 PM about the 2002 Ford Thunderbird

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

How do I reset the sensor for the catalytic converters so the car will pass smog.
They were replaced less than 2 years ago and 6 months ago the battery was
replaced.  There is no code coming up.

Drive the vehicle normally for a few days with the gas gauge between three quarters and one quarter. This will allow the computer to run the diagnostic tests on all the systems and set the readiness monitors so you'll pass inspection. Under Federal Law you will pass inspection with one of the readiness monitors not set. It doesn't matter which one is not set as long as the others are all set. Your check engine light or service engine soon light must not be on either. If you have a check engine light on that must be fixed before you clear the computer and drive to reset the readiness monitors. Hope that helps! Jim
