why doesn't my Cadillac CTS need a block heater?

Asked by GuruBDSN5 Dec 06, 2018 at 11:01 PM about the 2004 Cadillac CTS

Question type: General

When I bought my CTS, the dealer said I wouldn't need a block heater.  I never have needed one.  It starts easily even in below 0 temps and warms up very quickly. Curious why this is.

Fuel injected cars will start much easier in cold weather than older carburated cars.

F_O_R is correct. And years ago some vehicles were offered with a "Cold Weather Package" which included this block heater option, for people living in Northern USA and Canada. It's not necessary for gasoline engines but virtually all diesels have it and need it. We would plug in our diesel plow trucks to be sure they started 24/7. Some people put their diesel block heaters on a timer to come on just two hours beforehand to save on the electric bill, as they drew 1500 watts.
