1983 Scirocco

Asked by Jeff Jun 16, 2018 at 03:12 PM about the 1983 Volkswagen Scirocco

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1983 VW Scirocco won't crank after  sitting ten  years covered with tarps
and blankets indoors. Lots of moisture. When I turn the lights on and turn the
key the lights go out. Not even a click at the starter. Is this a dead short or
possibly a bad ignition switch?

The battery is good. Fuel doesn't matter at this point because I have no current being delivered to the starter.

I would not try to start it with bad fuel in the gas tank. You will cause more problems if you do.

The electrical symptoms you describe sound like a weak battery or bad battery connections.

Not even a click at the starter. When I turn on the headlights and turn the key to crank they go out.
