1982 f100 it will not shift to 1st or rev

had to put a new shifter column and it will not shift into 1st and rev what do i
need to do now? it has a 3 on the tree manual

im guessing you HAD 1st and rev.before..and the column shifter???...........sounds like its just not adjusted right... is it the same replacement ..

yes it had 1st and rev before, but on our way home it started not wanting to go into first so i had to drive it home in 2nd and 3rd. I replaced column up by stearing wheel but it still wont shift into 1 st and rev
