I just purchased a 1957 ford fairlane 500. I can't lock the doors. I pulled the
door panels off and the lock doesn't connect to anything. Is there something
missing. I can lock the doors from the inside but can't unlock with a key. Any
help would be appreciated.

If the lock does not connect to anything then a link is missing. http://restorationpartssource.com/store/Fairlane_1955_1957_Door_ Parts.htm

Did the link fall off? Look in the bottom of the door cavity.
