will a 5 speed transmission from an mid 1980s toyota pickup interchange with the 4 speed transmission in my 1984 toyota landcruiser?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

most of the toyota 4X4 pickups in the 80s and 90s used a 5 speed manual transmission I would like to replace the 4 speed manual in my 1984 landcruiser with a 5 speed transmission. Toyota did make a 5 speed for the landcruiser in these years, the H55, but if you can find one they hover around $2000.00. These 5 speed transmissions from the pickups can be bought for around $200. My question is can't these pickup transimission be used and what sort of conversion problems would I run into. I really appreciate your help.

I don't think so. Those trannies couldn't handle the torque of the I6 4.2L. There are other options. Most buy conversions bell housings for New Venture or Muncie trannies. Go to www.advanceadapters.com Despite the price, the H55 is worth it. No adapter, drop it fit and function.
